Castle Highlights

The Honors of Scotland

One of the Main highlights of the castle is the honors of Scotland where the oldest crown jewels in Scotland are held. The crown jewels are magnificent made out of gold, silver and precious gems.

Those who are history fanatics the crown was made for James V where he wore it at the Queen Mary of Guise coronation in 1540.

Location:  The Honors of Scotland is located on the first floor of the royal palace on the East side of Crown square.

Prisons of war

My personal favourite is the Prisons of war exhibition, During the 1700s to the 1800s

hundreds of prisoners were held in this vault where it was an extremely small, cramped, dark and damp space.

Even though this isn't the exact replica of the vault it is almost the exact same and gives the same feel for how horrible it would have been to stay in.

Throughout the vault there were information signs plotted which gave a wide variety of historic facts which i had never knew. The prisoners that were held were from all over the world e.g., French, American, Italy and many more. Also, I found out that in 1811 prisoners actually managed to escape through a hole that to this day is still noticeable, successfully all but one did not make it out.
